Motorola is likely to introduce a 5G smartphone under the affordable Moto G lineup. The leaked render from Evan Blass gives us the first look at the upcoming Moto G 5G smartphone. However, there is no information about the specifications or the launch date of this new Moto device.
The flagship Motorola Edge+ launched earlier this year is the first 5G smartphone from Motorola. It is also rumored to soon unveil the Motorola Edge Lite as its mid-range 5G smartphone.
Moto G 5G will be the most affordable 5G smartphone from Motorola
Going through the previous Moto G smartphones, the upcoming Moto G 5G will be its most affordable 5G smartphone. Talking about the design, the device sports dual punch-hole cameras on the front. However, the display looks weird with two separate cut-outs.
With the fingerprint scanner placed on the side, the company might have opted for an LCD display.
On the rear, the square camera module on the top left corner features a quad camera setup. The primary camera on this device will be equipped with a 48MP sensor.
Also, there is a dedicated hardware button on the left edge for accessing Google Assistant. As per the rumors, the Motorola Edge Lite will come with a Snapdragon 765G 5G Mobile Platform.
The more affordable Moto G 5G could opt for the newly announced Snapdragon 690 5G Mobile Platform.
Motorola might opt for the new Snapdragon 690 5G chipset
According to Qualcomm, this new 5G chipset will be introduced with the affordable 5G smartphones launching in the second half of this year.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G is built on the 8nm FinFET process. It features Kryo 560 CPU and Adreno 619L GPU.
This new chipset will offer up to 20 percent better CPU and up to 60 percent faster graphics performance than the Snapdragon 675. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 (2×2) MU-MIMO and Bluetooth 5.1.
Since the chipset supports 120Hz refresh rate, Motorola could even offer a high refresh rate with the LCD panel. With 5G support on Moto G 5G, the company has to opt for a bigger battery to make it last longer. It also increases the weight and thickness of the device, obviously.
To keep the pricing lower, the company might compromise over the build quality. From the below image, the device looks to sport plastic back panel. However, we need to wait until the official launch of the Moto G 5G for the official details.
