OnePlus Z May Be Launched As 'Nord by OnePlus'

The upcoming OnePlus Z may launch under a different name, it may be called ‘Nord By OnePlus’ or ‘OnePlus Nord’. That surprises you? Well, that’s not surprising, as the OnePlus Z is the second name that phone was rumored to sport.

‘Nord By OnePlus’ May Be The Name Of The Rumored OnePlus Z

The phone was originally referred to as the OnePlus 8 Lite. That changed along the way, when the OnePlus Z naming started popping up. Well, according to the latest piece of information, ‘Nord By OnePlus’ may be its final name.

The OnePlus Z may have been an internal name only, and may be replaced by Nord by OnePlus when the launch comes around. OnePlus actually submitted a trademark application for the ‘Nord by OnePlus’ brand in March.

It is noted that such branding covers a wide range of products, including headphones, tablets… and even smartphones. A well-known tipster only added more fuel to the fire.

His recent tweet seems to confirm the ‘Nord by OnePlus’ name. He did hint that the OnePlus Z may not be the name of the device, very discreetly, and this tweet kind of confirms it.

That is a rather odd naming choice by OnePlus, if it ends up being accurate. The OnePlus Z aka Nord by OnePlus will be a mid-range sibling to the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.

The OnePlus 8 Lite would be a far more logical choice, but…

The initial name, the OnePlus 8 Lite would probably be a more logical choice. The OnePlus Z would also make more sense as the company recently introduced the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z wireless earphones.

‘Nord by OnePlus’ kind of comes from nowhere, and it’s a bit odd. That’s the information we have at the moment, though. Perhaps the company wanted to avoid the ‘OnePlus 8 Lite’ naming in order not to water down the name of its flagships. That device is expected to launch in July. July 10 will be its release date, if the latest piece of information is to be believed.

The OnePlus Z aka Nord by OnePlus will be fueled by the Snapdragon 765G. That much has been confirmed by Max J. a while back. The device will support 5G connectivity, by the way, as the ‘G’ variant of that SoC is mentioned.

The device will be made out of metal and glass, while it will sport a flat display. Its bezels will be extremely thin, and the display camera hole will be centered. That way it will differentiate from the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro in terms of the design.

The phone will almost certainly feature a fullHD+ 90Hz display. The company already confirmed that it doesn’t plan to release any more phones with 60Hz displays. FullHD+ resolution makes sense for such a mid-range phone.

Android 10 will come pre-installed on the phone, while 30W charging will probably be included as well. The phone may feature a 4,000mAh battery, or something close to that.
