Quibi has reportedly just launched Chromecast support for the service. Though only in the iOS version of the app for now, it seems.
According to The Verge, the iOS app displays that Chromecast support for Quibi is now available, and shows can be casted to your TV or monitor. It’s also noted that the Android version of the app does not appear to display the Chromecast support feature just yet.
This could mean that support isn’t ready to roll out. Or maybe it’s just taking a little bit longer to surface for Android users.
Quibi Chromecast support for Android is on the horizon
Support for the Android version of the app may not be live yet, but it could be close. Quibi doesn’t seem to have formally stated that Chromecast support would be iOS-exclusive for a time.
So, there’s a pretty good chance that Android support is just around the corner. If you use Quibi on Android, and are eager to cast its content, keep checking the app.
The feature might show up before the evening is over. Though it’s just as likely to take longer. Quibi’s head of product design and engineering Tom Conrad confirmed in May that the Chromecast support would be coming in June.
Not included in that confirmation though was which platform he was referring to. Which may suggest that support was planned for both the Android and iOS app to hit around the same time.
Bite-sized content on the big screen
The main appeal of Quibi is that content is designed to be short. Bite-sized if you will.
This unique take on shows featuring big-budgets and a-list actors was initially meant for smartphones. But it was likely always the plan to add support for bigger screens at some point.
With Chromecast support now here, following AirPlay support earlier this year, big screen consumption is finally available to users. And perhaps it’s this method of viewing that could get users more interested.
Though viewing on mobile is a perfect fit for people on the go, it’s generally not the preferred method at home. You may watch Netflix on your phone when you’re out and about. But you no doubt prefer to watch on a bigger screen if given the opportunity.
And that’s one thing that Quibi was initially missing. Not anymore though. At least for users on the iOS platform. Soon enough Android users will get to join in.
