AccuWeather Update Brings New UI, By-Minute Forecasts

AccuWeather has now launched an update to its weather forecasts app that delivers a decidedly modern UI and dark mode. The biggest change though, as reported by Android Police, is undoubtedly going to be its by-minute forecasts.

Presented as a Home page clock widget, the forecasts are similar to those that were previously on offer from Dark Sky. The latter app, now owned by Apple, is set to be pulled from the Google Play Store in August. The app had previously been pulled but users have been given until the first of the month to find a replacement.

The app’s biggest feature was an attempt to provide weather forecasts not just by the hour or locale. But also with a focus on specific geographic locations, with hours split into minutes for a more comprehensive forecast. Now, AccuWeather supports a similar feature via this update, providing users with minute-to-minute forecasts for localized regions.

At the center of the clock, the company’s app now shows temperature and a ‘RealFeel’ temperature. The latter accounts for wind chill and other similar factors. It also shows the forecast weather conditions for the next 60 minutes.

What else is new in the AccuWeather app update?

Setting aside the more comprehensive and localized weather forecasts provided by this AccuWeather update, there are a plethora of other changes too. The UI itself has been overhauled with a more modern feel and users can even select a system-driven Dark Mode theme. That won’t necessarily change the primary UI, which remains blue and shifts to a darker theme at night. But it does mean all other UI takes on the standard dark gray dark mode theming.

There’s also a “black” mode that takes everything darker still. And, of course, users can set the theme manually instead of following system-level theming.

Another major difference is that AccuWeather now shows on a bottom-bar navigation UI. The company has organized everything behind bottom-placed tabs. Users can select between the home page, labeled as a “Today” tab, or three others. The newly-updated app provides a deeper look at current conditions or future forecasts with “Hourly,” “Daily,” or “Radars” tabs.

Last but not least, AccuWeather has updated its icon and logo to reflect modern design standards.

The update is, of course, free

The updated AccuWeather app is rolling out as of now and is entirely free to download and use. So anybody looking for a replacement for Dark Sky may likely want to take a look to see if the app will be serviceable.
