The wait is over for Lenovo’s official entry into the gaming smartphone market as the company just announced the Legion Phone Duel.
Its answer to the competition from brands like ASUS and its ROG Phone 3. The Legion Phone Duel is packed to the brim with top-notch hardware. Ready to boost your mobile gaming prowess to untold heights.
That is, if you live in China, or select markets in the EMEA or Asia Pacific. According to Lenovo it has no plans to release the Legion Phone Duel in the US.
Does that mean Lenovo will never release a gaming phone in the US? No, not necessarily. But based on official wording from Lenovo, the US is not a targeted market for this device. For those that live in areas where Lenovo will sell it, you’re in for a wild ride.
The Legion Phone Duel is a mobile gamer’s dream
Though some of the specs and features were already leaked prior to Lenovo’s official announcement, there’s something about a confirmation on the device being a powerhouse that just makes it that much more enticing.
The phone is a mobile gamer’s dream. It comes with the latest mobile platform from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G, as well as 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. There’s also a 12GB RAM option that comes with 256GB of storage, probably alongside a lower price point.
It has speakers tuned by Dirac Audio too, which Lenovo says provide some “surprising 3D audio.” If the description is accurate then users are likely to have a wonderful mobile gaming experience.
Popularized by ASUS’ ROG Phone series, you’ll even find touch sensor shoulder buttons for extra control in your games. And all of that will be visible on the 6.59-inch FHD display with a 144Hz refresh rate.
If you’re into livestreaming your gameplay, then the Legion Phone Duel is even more perfect. The popup camera on the side was in fact designed with livestreamers in mind.
One of the more interesting features of the phone is the dual vibration engines. So you’re basically getting haptic feedback in your mobile games. Though, this likely requires developers to actually utilize that hardware.
Double the cooling, double the batteries, double the fun
When it comes to power, it’s not all about performance. Sometimes it’s about actual power. Or rather battery power.
Lenovo packed this phone with 5,000mAh of battery life. But it’s not one giant battery. It’s actually two 2,500mAh-capacity batteries split into the top and bottom sections of the phone.
As for the cooling, Lenovo used dual liquid-cooling and copper tubes to help dissipate heat better and keep the device cool and comfortable during your gaming sessions. Lenovo boasted about its “disruptive cooling technology” months ago.
So here’s hoping it lives up to the hype. One of the main complaints about devices such as the ROG Phone II and other gaming phones is how hot they can get. Lenovo seems to think they’ve cracked the code with that.
As for the rest of the specs, the Legion Phone Duel is running on Android 10 and comes with dual front-facing stereo speakers, dual SIM slots, and a 64-megapixel rear camera for the main sensor alongside a secondary camera with a 16-megapixel ultrawide sensor.
The side-mounted, popup streamer-ready front-facing camera is a 20-megapixel sensor. So you’ll be pretty clear to anyone watching you. It also uses an on-display fingerprint sensor and has two USB C ports.
One on the bottom for when you charge the device normally, and one on the side for when you need to charge the phone while you’re playing games. Just like on the ROG Phone II.
The phone will release in July in China, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and select Asia Pacific countries. It will also release in Latin America at a later date, and will come in two colors – Vengeance Red and Blazing Blue.
