Well, we are not unofficially over the hype created around the OnePlus Nord smartphone. The company has done all it can to make the device look worlds apart. OnePlus has slapped in all the best tech (as per the budget, obviously) into the OnePlus Nord device. It is also the company’s cheapest smartphone ever, as it caters to the mid-range segment. But, if we go by a recent Reddit post, OnePlus has accidentally leaked hundreds of its user’s email ids in a research email.
Notably, the recipients of this ’email blast’ can also access all the user addresses included in the list. Besides, this is interesting because OnePlus has committed a similar email leak blooper in the past as well. Back in 2019, OnePlus leaked hundreds of user’s email addresses via a pre-installed “Shot on OnePlus” wallpaper app. You can read our whole coverage here.
And it seems like the company did not take a cue from the previous mishaps and has once again leaked user data. Another incident which brought OnePlus’s security flaws to light where credit card info of 40,000 customers was hacked back in 2018. This data breach included user information like credit card numbers, security codes, and expiry dates, which are pretty sensitive data. You can read the whole story here.
OnePlus is yet to respond on this matter
Even though this type of data leak should not have happened, they actually do happen. Moreover, this OnePlus email leak does not look as intimidating compared to credit card hacks. And besides, the company has brought down the numbers from 40,000 to a hundred (sarcasm!).
However, these leaked emails can get into the hands of spammers or phishers. Which if turns out to be true, can cause an ultimate headache for the users bearing the leaked email addresses. Matter of fact, nothing major as such can be done if someone has got your email address. But, for ill-minded people, that is half-victory. Because the next thing is to solve the puzzle behind the password and bam! you are in.
OnePlus is yet to comment on this matter and come up with a solution for this. Taking a look at the user comments in the Reddit post, several users have shared their views and opinion regarding this data leak. Some have taken this leak as fun, or some have outright blasted OnePlus for this type of carelessness. You can read the entire post by heading here.
