OnePlus Nord Experiencing Display Tinting Issues

Some early models of the One Plus Nord have already experienced tinting issues. 9to5Google reports that just over a week after launch the device has displayed “purple-tint” and off-axis color problems.

The device has already experience problems in its early days. Users found that applying pressure around the volume rockers can cause the frame to break. Although, this is one of the most hyped phones of 2020 OnePlus will not want to hear of any more problems with its flagship product.

Tinting issues with early OnePlus Nord models

Reports have appeared on Reddit and official forums complaining about a myriad of display issues. Owners have complained that when the brightness dips below 25% portions of the screen exhibit color casts or tinting. This tends to occur towards the lower half of the display.

Some have pointed out that this is not surprising given the OnePlus 8 Pro was prone to similar issues. Owners will worry as to whether this is a manufacturing issue or something that can be fixed in an update. Right now that is unclear but if it turns out to be the former that could be a major issue.

With regards to the OnePlus 8 Pro, a recent software patch alleviated the “green-tint” issue owners were facing. That may come as some comfort to owners of the OnePlus Nord.

9to5Google  did point out in their review of the product this may have been a problem in any case. So this sort of issue probably should not come as a surprise to users. The problem does only occur when the brightness is turned down. So it can happen when on auto-brightness but if you set your brightness above 25% then the display issues go away.
However, the tinting issues with the OnePlus Nord get are exacerbated in darker environments or with darker themes. Above 60% brightness appears to be the minimum level needed to get rid of the problem altogether. Although this is not the sort of solution new owners will be hoping for.

OnePlus comment on display issues

OnePlus were contacted for a comment on the issues and the company has provided a response to the problems. The company acknowledged that “under specific circumstances of low brightness, a slight display discoloration may occur due to the properties of the AMOLED display”.

The statement went onto point out that “this is not a quality issue and will not affect daily usage or the durability of the screen.” However, “OnePlus will continue to look into cutting-edge display technologies and strive to deliver the best user experience possible.”

Hopefully, for new owners’ sakes, the company responds to these issues more directly and has a solution. The issues do not appear to be widespread for now but it will be interesting to see how this issue unfolds over the coming weeks.
