Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi is preparing to launch its first 5G smartphone with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset. This device will likely arrive as the Redmi K40 later this month. Now, ahead of the launch, a couple of key details about the handset have popped up on Chinese microblogging site Weibo.
The upcoming Redmi smartphone will reportedly feature an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The information comes courtesy of a popular Chinese leakster identified as Digital Chat Station on Weibo. The same source had previously hinted of an LCD panel but have now changed their mind.
Additionally, the Redmi K40 is also said to pack a pop-up camera system. Camera specs are still a mystery but this device seems to be following in the footsteps of the Redmi K30 Pro. An OLED panel means it’s also likely getting an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Redmi K40 gets 120Hz OLED display, 33W fast charging
Redmi launched as many as five smartphones in the K30 lineup. The regular Redmi K30 was followed by the K30 Pro, K30 Pro Zoom, K30 5G Racing Edition, and the K30i 5G, all launched at regular intervals with minor tweaks. The company finally seems to be gearing up to launch the successor to the K30 series.
An alleged Redmi K40 recently passed through the 3C certification process in China with the model number M2006J10C.
The official listing revealed 33W fast charging support. The charging adapter appears to be the same one that Redmi ships with the K30 Pro.
It bears the same model number, MDY-11-EX. Rumors are that the Redmi K40 will pack a 4,500 mAh battery.
The Redmi K40 will be the second 5G-capable Redmi smartphone with a MediaTek chipset and the first with the Dimensity 1000+. The company launched the Redmi 10X series in May with the MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC, which is a mid-range 5G solution from the Taiwanese chipmaker.
The Dimensity 1000+, on the other hand, is a flagship chipset that competes with top-of-the-line offerings from Qualcomm. This chipset supports 144Hz refresh-rate screens at FHD+resolution. Redmi, however, seems to be limiting the display refresh rate on the Redmi K40 at 120Hz.
The new chipset also incorporates MediaRek’s newest technologies that are tailor-made for gaming, video, and power-efficiency. There’s the latest HyperEngine 2.0 technology, an updated Network Engine, a Rapid Response Engine, and MiraVision Engine to ensure best-in-class performance in all departments.
With all this on offer, the Redmi K40 promises to a powerful 5G smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer. We’ll likely get to know more about it in the coming weeks as the company prepares for its launch.
