The Motorola Moto G9 Play is the global variant of the Moto G9, and it’s now official. This handset got announced the same day as the Moto G9, which was launched in India.

The Moto G9 Play is basically identical to the Moto G9, but it’s aimed at global markets. This phone will become available in Europe soon, and it will be priced at €169. Motorola did not name any other markets just yet.
Chances are that this handset will ship in a number of other regions in the coming weeks / months. The phone comes in both Sapphire Blue and Forest Green color options, the same as the Moto G9.
In addition to those two colors, though, Motorola announced an additional color variant for the global model, Spring Pink. That color option will not be available for the Moto G9, it seems.
That being said, the Moto G9 Play comes with a waterdrop display notch, and a rather thick ‘chin’. The rest of its bezels are quite thin, though, and all of its physical buttons are placed on the right.
The phone includes three cameras on the back. Those cameras are centered, and a part of the same camera module as the phone’s LED flash. The camera module does protrude a bit, but not much.
A capacitive fingerprint scanner sits on the back side of this device. The back of the device is curved towards the sides, by the way, as you can see. The phone’s corners are rounded, and the same goes for its display corners.
The phone features a large display, and a large battery
The Motorola Moto G9 Play features a 6.5-inch HD+ (1600 x 720) LCD Max Vision display. This is a 60Hz flat display, in case you were wondering. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 662 64-bit octa-core processor.
The device includes 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of expandable storage (expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card). A hybrid dual SIM setup is also included. There are two nano SIM card slots included, but you can use the second one to expand the phone’s storage instead.
A 5,000mAh battery is also included in this package, along with Motorola’s 20W Turbopower charging. Bluetooth 5.0 is included, and the phone is splash resistant (P2i coating).
A 48-megapixel camera (f/1.7 aperture) is this phone’s main shooter. A 2-megapixel macro camera (f/2.4 aperture) is also included on the back, along with a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
A single 8-megapixel camera can be found on the front. The phone measures 165.21 x 75.73 x 9.18mm, and it weighs 200 grams.
