6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 775G 5G Chipset In The Works

Qualcomm will be launching the new flagship Snapdragon chipset by the end of this year. According to Roland Quandt of Winfuture.de, the company will follow up with a new 7-series chipset in the form of Snapdragon 775G built on a 6nm process. It will be the successor to the popular mid-range 5G chipset, Snapdragon 765G.

The Snapdragon 775G with model number SM7350 is internally referred to as Cedros. It could become the first 6nm chipset to hit the market. The smartphones with this new chipset are expected to be available in early 2021.

Upcoming Snapdragon 775G chipset to be built on a 6nm process

Moreover, it will be a massive upgrade over the 7nm-based Snapdragon 765G. The Snapdragon 775G is expected to share some of its features with the Snapdragon 875 SoC. The upcoming 7-series chipset is mentioned to support 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and 120Hz high refresh rate displays.

Compared to the Snapdragon 765G, the 6nm-based Snapdragon 775G could improve CPU and GPU performance by 40 percent and 50 percent respectively. Also, the improved power efficiency should offer longer battery life than its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 765G can be found in several mid-range 5G smartphones, including the likes of LG Velvet and OnePlus Nord. Just like its predecessor, the upcoming Snapdragon 775G should also support both Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks. Coming to the Snapdragon 875G, it is internally known as Lahaina.

The company is also working on the plus variant of the upcoming Snapdragon 875G  SoC

According to the tipster, the company is also working on Lahaina+ which will debut as the Snapdragon 875G+. For the last couple of years, Qualcomm has been launching the Plus variant of the flagship chipset in the second half of the year.

Going by the previous launches, the Snapdragon 875G+ could be slightly overclocked to offer better peak performance. The earlier reports already confirmed the flagship Snapdragon 875 to be built on the latest 5nm fabrication technology.

While the production is expected to be shared by both TSMC and Samsung, the recent report indicated that Samsung has bagged the complete order. If the report turns out to be true, this will be the first time for Samsung to manufacture all the flagship chipsets for Qualcomm.

Earlier this month, Qualcomm also officially confirmed to launch the first-ever Snapdragon 4-series chipset with 5G support in early 2021. Currently, 5G is limited to mid-range and flagship smartphones. With these upcoming launches, 5G will be more commonly found in the budget segment as well.
