In the last few years, Samsung has introduced breakthroughs in its smartphone camera department with the Galaxy A-series. The Samsung Galaxy A9, launched in 2018, is the world’s first smartphone to feature quad rear cameras. According to the latest report, the company will be introducing a penta camera setup with the upcoming Galaxy A72.
If this turns out to be true, it would be a first for Samsung to have five camera sensors on the rear. However, the Nokia 9 PureView unveiled at MWC 2019 is the world’s first penta camera smartphone.
Upcoming Samsung Galaxy A72 to debut with a penta camera setup
According to the source, the penta camera setup on the Galaxy A72 will include a 64-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with up to 3x lossless zoom, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and finally a 5-megapixel depth camera.
With the Galaxy A72, the company might also offer optical image stabilization for the first time in the Galaxy A-series. Apart from recording smooth and steady videos, the OIS will also help in stabilizing the device to capture perfect long exposure photos. This will mainly come handy when using the night mode.
Galaxy A52 will continue to feature quad rear cameras
For selfies, it comes with a single 32-megapixel camera on the front. Along with the Galaxy A72, the company is also expected to launch the Galaxy A52 smartphone. As seen on its predecessor, the new Galaxy A52 will continue to sport the quad camera setup.
However, the primary camera on the upcoming Galaxy A52 will now use a 64-megapixel sensor instead of a 48-megapixel sensor. It will also feature an ultra-wide camera, a macro camera, and a depth camera. Over the last few quarters, the latest Galaxy A-series smartphones have appeared continuously in the best-selling smartphones list.
In the first quarter of 2020, the 4G-variant of the Samsung Galaxy A51 is the world’s best-selling Android smartphone. The previously launched Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 smartphones came in both 4G and 5G variants.
Since 5G is only limited to a few markets, the company should continue launching both the 4G and 5G variants with the upcoming Galaxy A-series smartphones as well. The Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 smartphones will likely launch in the first half of next year.
As per the source, the company is expecting to generate 30 million sales from both these smartphones. For Samsung, this is 10 percent of the 300 million shipments for all of 2019.
