Samsung will launch the Galaxy S21 lineup in the first quarter of 2021, if we go by the company’s previous launch cycles. According to the latest report, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will reportedly sport a quad-camera setup featuring two telephoto cameras.
The extra telephoto sensor will replace the ToF 3D sensor as the fourth camera sensor on the rear. With the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the company has already ditched the ToF 3D sensor. In addition, the first of its kind camera setup from Samsung will be limited to the Ultra moniker in the 2021 Galaxy S smartphones.

Even with the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 lineups, the company has limited large camera sensors to Ultra models. Additionally, only one of the two telephoto lenses will have a periscope-style setup. While the standard telephoto lens comes with a 3x optical zoom, the periscope telephoto lens will have more than 5x optical zoom.
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus launched earlier this year came with a similar camera setup. It came equipped with an 8-megapixel telephoto camera and an 8-megapixel periscope-style telephoto camera. The P40 Pro Plus offers up to 10x optical zoom, 20x hybrid zoom, and 100x max zoom.

Coming to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the primary camera will still be a 108-megapixel wide-angle sensor. The fourth camera could be a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. For selfies, it will come equipped with a single front-facing camera with a resolution of 40-megapixels.
Speaking of the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus, both devices may carry similar hardware in the camera department. Compared to the Galaxy S20 series, the upcoming Galaxy S21 devices will have more sensors with optical image stabilization (OIS). The report also suggests the Galaxy S21 Ultra will come with S Pen support.
As per the previous leaks, the recently launched Galaxy Note 20 series could be the last Note smartphones to launch ever. Samsung has also reportedly changed the Galaxy S21 lineup’s code name from “Unbound” to “Palette”. Since there is no official confirmation over the device name, the rumored Galaxy S21 series might even launch as Galaxy S30.
Apart from the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s focusing issue, both the Ultra monikers offered impressive camera performance. The next-gen Galaxy Ultra smartphone with all the rumored camera sensors should be able to take the camera performance to the next level.
