Galaxy S21 Ultra May Feature The Same Battery As The S20 Ultra

Now that Samsung is done with all major device launches for 2020, it’s 2021 lineups are starting to take shape. The Galaxy S21 series will be the company’s first big launch next year and leaks pertaining to those devices have now started to appear more frequently.

A leak earlier this week revealed some camera specs of the Galaxy S21 Ultra (SM-G998). Now, we have some information regarding its battery capacity as well. As per the information obtained by Dutch publication Galaxy Club, the priciest Galaxy S21 model will use a battery pack with model number EB-BG998ABY.

This battery has a rated capacity of 4,885mAh. And if you recall, the Galaxy S20 Ultra also packs a battery with a rated capacity of 4,885mAh. However, Samsung markets the device’s typical battery capacity as 5,000mAh. So, in all likelihood, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will arrive with a 5,000mAh battery as well.

The vanilla S21 model (SM-G991) also might not see any bump in battery capacity from its predecessor. A 3C certification last week revealed that the phone will pack a battery with model number EB-BG991ABY. It has a rated capacity of 3,880mAh, so Samsung could market the Galaxy S21’s typical battery capacity as 4,000mAh, similar to that of the Galaxy S20.

The Galaxy S21+ (SM-G996), meanwhile, might come with a slightly bigger battery than the Galaxy S20+. The device’s EB-BG996ABY battery pack has a rated capacity of 4,660mAh. In comparison, the Galaxy S20+ packs a battery with a rated capacity of 4,370mAh and a typical capacity of 4,500mAh. Going by this, we might see the Galaxy S21+ come with a 4,800mAh battery.

Galaxy S21 series may still see significant improvements in battery life

Although the Galaxy S21 series is coming with pretty much similar battery packs as the Galaxy S20 series, we might still see significant improvements in battery life in the 2021 Galaxy S phones. All three models are expected to be powered by Samsung’s next-generation 5nm Exynos chipsets. 5nm architecture should allow for higher power efficiency and longer battery life.

Samsung is also manufacturing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 875 chipsets, which are also based on 5nm architecture. So the Snapdragon versions of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra should also see a bump in battery endurance.

The Galaxy S20 series phones pack either Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865 SoC depending on the market. Both these chipsets are fabricated on a 7nm process. The Snapdragon 865+, which powers the Galaxy Note 20 series in select markets, is also a 7nm chipset.
