According to a new report by Sammobile, a new update is live for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G device and it notably enables the eSIM functionality on the device.
For those who don’t know, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has one physical SIM slot and the other one is an embedded SIM slot. This structure resembles the Galaxy Fold.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 not just improves in terms of the design, but also packs a better hardware. The display is now bigger, ugly notch is removed, the amera is enhanced, and few other tweaks have been made.
Besides, many users have compliant the unavailability of the eSIM option on their new $2,000 foldable device. Well, actually it was not even there until now.
However, the good news is that a new update is rolling out for the masses that triggers the eSIM functionality. This is just in line with one of our earlier reports.
Back a few days ago, we reported that Samsung will soon release a new update that will surely enable the eSIM support on the device. In fact, Samsung even acknowledged the missing functionality.
Note that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 update is available for the pre-ordered users. As the sale already went live in major markets starting from September 18.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G new update also brings some enhancements in the camera app
Talk about the Galaxy Z Fold 2 eSIM update, it arrives with firmware version number F916BXXU1BTIA. After updating, you will notice a new SIM card manager menu under the Settings app.
Additionally, the changelog of the new update also mentions that the camera app of the device is also improved. But Sammobile did not touch on the changes this new update brings for the camera app.
Well, the security patch stands on 1 September 2020 and the One UI version is still One UI 2.5. For those who are waiting for the Android 11 One UI 3.0 update, might have to wait a bit more.
However, we believe that Galaxy Z Fold 2 would be among the front runners in grabbing the latest Android 11 update from Samsung.
Moreover, the update is live for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 users in Europe. It is being pushed via OTA in batches and will take some time in arriving on all the regions.
If you reside in Europe and want to check if your phone has received the update or not, you can head over to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > Check for Updates.
Samsung has an Unpacked event scheduled for September 23, i.e. today. Galaxy S20 FE ‘Fan Edition’ is expected to be revealed at this event. Stay tuned to AndroidHeadlines for more info on that.
