Last week, MediaTek has launched the all-new Dimensity 1000C chipset specifically designed for the American market. It is also the first Dimensity chipset to be available in the US. The latest Geekbench results clearly show the Dimensity 1000C chipset’s dominance over the Snapdragon 765G in terms of performance.
The Dimensity 1000C scored 601 points in single-core and 2,365 points in the multi-core tests. Whereas, the Snapdragon 765G managed to score 607 points in single-core and 1,777 points in multi-core tests.
Dimensity 1000C outperforms Snapdragon 765G in terms of performance
While there isn’t much difference in the single-core performance, the Dimensity 1000C outperforms the Snapdragon 765G in the multi-core test by a long margin. The overall performance of the new Dimensity chipset is on the same level as the new 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 820 processor.
However, the benchmarks don’t reflect real-world scenarios. Keeping that in mind, one should also note they do prove how good the chipsets are. Since both the chipsets are built on the 7nm process, there shouldn’t be much difference in power efficiency.
The CPU on the Dimensity 1000C comes packed with four Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. Coming to the Snapdragon 765G, the Kryo 475 CPU includes one Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.3GHz, one Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.2GHz, and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.
Meanwhile, the Mali-G57 MC5 GPU on the Dimensity 1000C should perform similar to the Adreno 620 GPU found on the Snapdragon 765G. In the other departments, the Snapdragon 765G offers better specifications than the Dimensity 1000C.
The Snapdragon 765G supports up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM with a peak frequency of 2133MHz, whereas it is limited to 1866MHz on the Dimensity 1000C. Notably, the MediaTek’s newest chipset doesn’t even support UFS 3.0 flash storage.
T-Mobile LG Velvet 5G is the first smartphone to sport Dimensity 1000C SoC
The Snapdragon 765G is the most popular choice for the Android OEM’s launching mid-range 5G smartphones. While there are already several 5G smartphones powered by the various Dimensity chipsets, the availability is mostly limited to China.
T-Mobile’s LG Velvet 5G is the first-ever smartphone to feature the new MediaTek Dimensity 1000C SoC. In China, a few companies already launched 5G smartphones powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity chipset under $250.
Qualcomm recently launched the Snapdragon 690 5G mobile platform as the first 5G chipset in Snapdragon 6-series. In early 2021, the company will be launching the Snapdragon 4-series 5G chipset to bring 5G connectivity to low-cost smartphones.
