The OnePlus 8 series is now one step closer to a stable Android 11 update. The company has started rolling out its second Open Beta build for the two devices. The update is officially called OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 2.
We are expecting the next update to be either the Open Beta 3 or the very first stable Android 11 update for the two phones. Open Beta 1 was quite stable, and this new update only polishes things further.

The changelog for this update includes quite a few entries. There are quite a few fixes and optimizations included here, and also a new feature for the Ambient display. Let’s talk about that first.
OnePlus has added the so-called ‘Canvas’ feature. It can automatically draw a wireframe picture based on a lock screen photo on your device. That is actually quite interesting.
You can view this picture anytime without waking up the display. All you have to do is navigate to Settings -> Customization -> Wallpaper -> Canvas, and choose photo preview, from there on, the phone can generate it automatically.
The company patched up a number of known issues
Now, let’s move to optimizations and fixes. The company has optimized some UI display elements in the Settings section. In some cases, widgets on this build did not respond, but that has been fixed as well. It happened rarely, but still.
The failure to wake up Google Assistant in some cases has also been fixed. The HD icon on the call log interface was not centered in some cases, well, that has now been fixed as well.
The company also sorted out the black screen issue, which occurred when a user entered the ‘Tips & Support’ interface. When it comes to ‘System’ updates, the system stability has been updated in general, as the company apparently squashed a number of smaller bugs.
One specific issue with the ‘Clock’ has also been fixed. The numbers tended to disappear in the ‘Timer’ section, though it happened only in some circumstances.
The last entry in the changelog has to do with the ‘Network’. The company has optimized the power consumption of ‘Smart 5G’. It was a bit too excessive it seems.
This update weighs 230MB, and if you’re running beta software on your OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro device, chances are you’ll get it soon, or you already have. It is rolling out OTA (over the air), by the way.
These two smartphones are expected to get a stable Android 11 update either this month, or in October. Chances are they’ll get it before the OnePlus 8T gets announced on October 14, but we’ll see.
