OnePlus Planning To Bring 8K 960fps Video Recording

It seems like OnePlus is planning to bring 8K 960fps video recording to its devices. This feature has been spotted in OxygenOS 11 beta build that was released quite recently.

To be more specific, it was spotted in OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 1 for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. As you can see in the provided image below, 8K 960fps recording can be seen in the code.

These strings suggest that the company is working on 8K 960fps video recording. Do note that this feature may not even become available on the company’s current phones, considering their hardware.

8K 960fps video recording may be heading to OnePlus devices, but not current ones

The Spectra 480 ISP on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 supports 720p at 960fps, without overheating. That ISP cannot natively process enough frames for 960fps at 8K, 4K, or even 1080p video. It can handle 8K at 30fps, though.

So, what’s going on here? Well, these strings are probably just preparation for upcoming OnePlus devices. Considering the hardware, the company’s current phones won’t offer that feature, nor will the upcoming OnePlus 8T.

We don’t know what will the Snapdragon 875 bring to the table, but if it ends up supporting this feature, it may be included in the OnePlus 9 next year. We’ll see.

This is not the only interesting info spotted in the OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 11 code, though. The mention of OnePlus Buds Z is also there. These buds are not the same as the OnePlus Buds, as there is a separate oneplus_bluetooth_Buds tuning profile included.

Considering the ‘Buds’ name, these are probably the company’s upcoming TWS (Truly Wireless) earbuds. It’s not likely they’ll launch this year (considering when the Buds arrived), but anything is possible.

The OnePlus 8T reference was also spotted in the code

There is also a file named “oneplus_kebab.webp”, which suggests that the OnePlus 8T is on the way. Kebab is its codename, in case you missed that news a while back.

The OnePlus 8T Pro will not launch this year, at all, if a tipster is to be believed. OnePlus will focus on a single flagship this time around, which is something the company hasn’t done since the OnePlus 6T.

The OnePlus 8T is expected to arrive in the near future, but we still do not have the launch date. The OnePlus 7T did arrive back in September last year, so it’s possible its successor will launch by the end of this month, or in early October.
