G Suite Is Now Google Workspace, Brings New Icons For Its Apps

It’s official then. Google is rebranding the G Suite as Google Workspace, which consists of online productivity and collaboration tools for businesses.

In fact, G Suite, now Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Meet are also getting revamped with new icons. Additionally, the content creation tools Docs, Sheets, and Slides, are also getting a new brand identity.

As per the official post, Google reveals that users will see a new four-color icon for Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This is done to properly streamline the apps with Google Workspace.

Moreover, the new Gmail icons get the treatment of new modern Google apps. Earlier this month, just like Maps and Photos, the email service Gmail is also adopting a new four-color icon.

The four-color includes the traditional Google colors of blue, red, yellow, and green. The Gmail gets its letter M painted in the traditional colors, which looks ‘modern’.

The red color gets the largest share as compared to other colors, just saying. Another thing to note is that the iconic envelope is now getting away from Gmail.

Notably, the letter M now would only imply as Google is projecting the whitespace above and below the letter M to form an envelope. Moreover, the icons are now flat.

Calendar gets Blue as the primary color, while red gets the largest share for Gmail new icon

Coming to the Google Calendar app icon, it is also getting a major revamp like Gmail. Notably, the physical object which was part of the old icon is getting dropped.

It has now become square-shaped and has the bottom-right corner creased. Distinctly, Google Calendar gets Blue as the primary color with a slight hint of red color on the crease.

Google Drive app icon is relatively unchanged. And it gets the same triangle, but with rounded edges. Similar to Google Calendar, the Google Drive icon also gets a subtle splash of red at the bottom-right corner.

Google Doc, being part of Google Drive, gets the same color treatment. It is just that the app icon is rectangular with a creased top-right corner.

Google Meet is dropping the real camera logo and will be implied with the four-colors. The basic shapes get all the four traditional Google colors with a splash of red at the top-left corner.

Apart from the aesthetic changes, Google will also be rolling out Google Meet picture-in-picture to Docs, Sheets, and Slides in the coming months. This is done to integrate all of the Google tools across its applications.

Besides, new features like the ability to create or collaborate on docs with guests in Chat rooms and to preview linked files in Docs, Sheets, and Slides without needing to open them in a new tab is coming soon.
