Leaked Moto G Stylus 2021 Specifications Suggest Notable Upgrades

Motorola could be prepping a follow up to the Moto G Stylus launched in February this year. The device is yet to have an official market name but some of its key specifications have now leaked online. Reputed tipster Evan Blass has got hold of the spec details of the new phone.

Moto G Stylus 2021 leaked specifications

Possibly called the Moto G Stylus 2021, the upcoming Moto G phone will reportedly come with a huge, 6.81-inch Full HD+ display. The 2020 model features a 6.4-inch display. As per the report, the new model will sport a similar front look with a punch-hole cutout for the camera at the top left corner of the display. However, the display resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, up from the current 1080 x 2300 pixels, suggests a taller aspect ratio. We might be looking at a phone with a 20:9 aspect ratio, or thereabout.

The new version also upgrades the chipset from Snapdragon 665 to Snapdragon 675. However, it keeps the same memory configuration of 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone should come with a dedicated microSD card slot for expandable storage.

Another big upgrade is the jump from a triple-camera model to a quad-camera setup on the back. The current model does have four sensors on the back along with an LED flash, but one of them is a Time of Flight camera for laser autofocus.  Motorola is replacing that with a 2-megapixel depth sensor on the new model.

The primary camera is still a 48-megapixel sensor. The 2-megapixel macro camera as well as the 16-megapixel front-facing camera have also carried over unchanged. However, Motorola is offering an 8-megapixel sensor for the ultrawide camera, which is a downgrade from the 16-megapixel ultrawide camera on the current model.

The Moto G Stylus 2021 will also reportedly shift the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner to the side of the handset, possibly embedded into the power button. Despite a bigger footprint, the upcoming Stylus-wielding is still packing a 4,000mAh battery. Hopefully, it will see an upgrade from the 10W wired fast (not really fast) charging speed on the current model.

The new handset will not support NFC connectivity. However, the rest of the specs point to a decent mid-range smartphone until you see the information about its software. Despite being a 2021 model, this phone reportedly comes with Android 10 out of the box. That’s really disappointing from the Lenovo-owned company.

Price and release date

As per the leaked info, the Moto G Stylus 2021 bears the model number XT2115 and is being internally codenamed as Minsk. However, there is no word yet on the pricing and release date of the new handset. Given the number of details revealed in this leak, it’s already likely in development and we might see it arrive early next year.

The 2020 model of the Moto G Stylus was announced in February followed by an April release. The handset retailed for $299 at launch. Its successor should come with a similar price tag as well.
