Last month, OnePlus unveiled two new budget smartphones — the OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100. Looking at the fact that the low-cost Nord N100 is basically a rebranded OPPO A53s smartphone, it only came with a 60Hz display. According to Android Authority, the retail unit of the Nord N100 actually features a 90Hz high refresh rate display.
When contacted for comment by Android Authority, OnePlus also confirmed that the Nord N100 comes equipped with a 90Hz display. Now, we can once again reaffirm that the new budget OnePlus smartphone is actually a rebranded OPPO A53s. The OnePlus Nord N100, priced at £179/€179 (approx. $211), is the most affordable OnePlus smartphone ever launched.
OnePlus Nord N100 does, in fact, features a 90Hz display
Though the device supports a 90Hz refresh rate, the lack of a powerful chipset will surely limit the fluidity of the high refresh rate experience. Instead of facing backlash after launching the device, OnePlus played safe by promoting the device as a regular 60Hz display. We have to wait and see if this changes the company’s marketing strategy in the coming days.
As of now, both the newly launched Nord smartphones are available only in the UK and Europe. While no exact date was mentioned, the Nord N10 and Nord N100 are confirmed to launch in the US. Under the hood, the Nord N100 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 mobile platform coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
Both the Nord smartphones will soon debut in the US
It sports a 6.52-inch punch-hole display with HD+ resolution. In terms of optics, there is a triple camera setup on the rear featuring a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth camera. For selfies, it offers an 8MP front-facing camera.
Unlike the previously launched OnePlus smartphones, the Nord N100 also features a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD slot. It even packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging using the USB Type-C port. The Nord N100 is also the only 4G OnePlus smartphone to launch in 2020. On the rear, it comes with a circular fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
The Nord N100 runs on the last year’s Android 10-based Oxygen OS 10.5 out of the box. Recently, the company confirmed that the device will only receive one major OS update. Basically, this new smartphone launched less than a month ago is only eligible to receive the Android 11 update.
