Chromecast With Google TV Has Some Helpful New Playlist Options

The new Chromecast with Google TV has some interesting new playlist options for users to sift through.

These are curated playlist options that are based on the trending search terms from 2020. Revolving around trending movies and trending actors. Or at least one actor in particular.

Google has updated the Chromecast with Google TV to display these Year In Search playlists so that they’re visible to anyone who has the device. Google also won’t be doing any more than the two playlists that are already there.

Still, these are a nice way to potentially discover something new to watch if you just couldn’t settle on something.

The Chromecast with Google TV has a Tom Hanks trending playlist

Love Tom Hanks? Want to watch as many of his films as you can? If you answered yes to one or both of those questions, Google’s got your back.

One of the two curated playlists that was added to the Chromecast with Google TV is a Tom Hanks is Trending in 2020 playlist. As one would have probably guessed, it’s filled with Tom Hanks movies.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that it will include every single one of his films. But it does appear that there are a fair amount of them in there. Including BIG, Sleepless In Seattle, Apollo 13, Catch Me If You Can, Splash and more.

Worth noting is that these movies won’t necessarily be free to watch. Though the playlist does display them, you’ll need to have access to the service where they’re available.

Splash for example is available via Disney+. Meanwhile Sleepless In Seattle is listed as available through YouTube TV. So you’d probably need to subscribe to both if you want to watch both those movies.

Dive into one of the top trending movies of the year

If you’d rather spend your movie watching time with a top trending film from this year, the other playlist centers around the top trending movies that people searched for in 2020.

This includes Parasite, which is on Hulu, as well as Black Panther and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. There are ten movies in total on this particular playlist. The remaining seven are 1917, Little Women, Just Mercy, Bad Boys 3, Sonic The Hedgehog, Contagion, and Fantasy Island.

One thing to keep in mind is that these aren’t going to be on the home page. So don’t boot up the Chromecast with Google TV expecting these to be front and center. Because they won’t be.

it’s also not certain how long the playlists will stick around. But it’s a fair bet that since they’re based on 2020 trends, they’ll probably disappear after the new year.
