Motorola Edge+ Gets December Android Security Patch On Verizon

Verizon has started rolling out the December 2020 Android security patch update for the Motorola Edge+ smartphones. This new update, listed as System Update 4, comes with the software version QPBS30.289-Q3-102-13-21. As per the changelog, there is nothing else included in this new OTA update.

The users might not notice any visible UI changes since no new major features came from Motorola’s side. However, the update might include smaller bug fixes for improving the device’s stability. Not all eligible users will be seeing the update on the first day itself.

Verizon Motorola Edge+ starts receiving December Android security patch

As with all Android updates, the December 2020 security patch for the Motorola Edge+ will also roll out incrementally over the next few days. In the meantime, users can manually check for the latest OTA update by going to Settings > About phone > System updates. If the latest update is available, tap ‘Yes’ to download and install it.

The phone will restart automatically once the installation is completed. Motorola Edge+ is the company’s comeback smartphone in the flagship segment. However, Motorola is yet to roll out the latest Android 11 update for this smartphone. Notably, it only revealed the roadmap for the Android 11 rollout a couple of days back.

Motorola finally reveals the Android 11 roadmap

The company plans to update 22 smartphones from its portfolio to Android 11 over the next few months. For many of these smartphones, the upcoming Android 11 update will be the last major OS update. At least for the flagship Motorola Edge+, the company guaranteed to release the next year’s Android 12 update as well.

If you didn’t know, Google has launched both the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G with Android 11 out of the box in early September. Moreover, a majority of these Motorola smartphones will be getting the Android 11 update only in mid-2021. What’s interesting here is that Motorola is falling back when it actually matters.

In the past, the company has been one of the very few OEM’s to quickly roll out the new updates. The Motorola Edge+ was announced in April this year with Android 10. It sports a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ playback support. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 mobile platform.

With the upcoming Android 11 update, Motorola Edge+ will be getting new features like improved media controls, quick access to smart devices, better privacy controls, priority conversations, and chat bubbles for messaging apps.
