If you want a top performing gaming mouse that provides faster performance than all of its competition, you should go for the Razer Viper 8K.
At least that what Razer wants you to do. Today Razer officially announced the Viper 8K. A refresh of its Viper mouse from 2019 with some upgraded tech. On the outside there is nothing different about this mouse. It’s a gaming mouse, it’s matte black like most other Razer products, and it looks exactly like the Viper from 2019.
But one should not judge a book by its cover. Because in the case of the Viper 8K the secret is in the sauce. Or under the hood, rather.
The Razer Viper 8K delivers faster performance than the competition
The secret to Razer’s claims with this new version of the Viper mouse is the polling rate. Razer says it will deliver faster performance than other top gaming mouse options.
The reason for that is the Viper 8K’s polling rate thanks to the new HyperPolling technology inside. According to Razer, this is the first mouse to ever offer a true polling rate of 8000Hz. Whereas most other gaming mice used for competitive gaming or high-level play come in at around 1000Hz. Razer uses its own standard Viper mouse as an example. Which has a polling rate of up to 1000Hz. And has been considered a top mouse choice for Esports.
Obviously, the 8000Hz polling rate is much higher. Which could give users of the Viper 8K an advantage. According to Razer, the technology inside the mouse helps it send 8x more data every second. So every time you click the mouse buttons, the Viper 8K is able to send more of that data and essentially reduce input delay.
Will this mean much for most gamers? No. Probably not. And it may not exactly be useful tech to have for all games. You’re likely to see more of a benefit in FPS titles than RPG titles for example. Razer also isn’t promising that everyone who grabs one of these is going to see massive significant changes to their gameplay.
In fact the changes are much more likely to be minor and subtle enough that you probably won’t notice any improvements even if they are there. That doesn’t mean your game won’t improve, just that you may not see those improvements.
Razer didn’t raise the price on this new version
The older standard Viper retails for $79.99 and Razer has kept the price the same for the Viper 8K. Which means you can get into one for the same cost as the older Viper and get better performance out of it.
Razer already has the mouse up for sale, and you can also find it at select retail partners.
