Verizon Is Rolling Out A New Update To Moto Z4 & Motorola One 5G

A couple of Motorola smartphones are now picking up the January 2021 Android security patch on Verizon. The Verizon versions of the Moto Z4 and the Motorola One 5G are both receiving last month’s security maintenance release with a new update.

The January update for the Moto Z4 bumps the device’s software version to QDFS30.130-42-5-10-7. The Motorola One 5G owners, meanwhile, will see their phone’s software version change to QPNS30.37-Q3-42-40-7-4 after installing this update.

As per the official changelog published by Verizon, the latest software updates for the Moto Z4 and the Motorola One 5G only brings the Android security fixes for January 2021. There aren’t any new features or functional changes arriving with this update, so don’t go deep looking for them.

As always, this is an incremental update and may not be available for all eligible units simultaneously. You should receive a notification for downloading this update over the air (OTA) once it becomes available for your phone. Simply tap on “Yes, I’m in” to start downloading the OTA file.

If you don’t receive any notification, you can also manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > About phone > System updates and then tapping “Yes, I’m in”. We recommend you connect your phone to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the update.

Moto Z4 and Motorola One 5G pick January update on Verizon

Motorola isn’t a phone maker known for rolling out fast software updates to its devices. The Lenovo-owned company is a prime example of the classic “better late than never” situation. It does offer decent software support to its phones but you can expect a significant delay in receiving the latest software updates. And if you consider the carrier-specific versions of its phones, the wait only gets longer. As you can see, Verizon’s Moto Z4 and Motorola One 5G are receiving the January update in February.

To recall, the Moto Z4 was launched with Android 9 Pie and has already received the update to Android 10. It’s, unsurprisingly, missing from Motorola’s official Android 11 update roadmap. The Motorola One 5G, which arrived with Android 10 last September, will get Android 11 though. It now remains to be seen how long the wait will be.

Back in December 2020, Motorola published an official list of devices that will be receiving the Android 11 update. The company didn’t share any timeframe but only said that the rollout will begin “in the coming months.”

The list included 23 devices of which the Moto G Pro started receiving the Android 11 update late last month. It is the first Motorola smartphone to get the latest version of Android OS. Hopefully, the company will start seeding Android 11 to more of its devices soon.
