Elden Ring is getting an expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree

Elden Ring is officially getting its first expansion, called Shadow of the Erdtree, beckoning players back to the Lands Between. Elden Ring has been a commercial success and a massive hit with gamers since its launch. Reaching 20 million copies sold. It’s no surprise, then, that FromSoftware would want to expand on that by giving players more content to sink their teeth into.

There isn’t a whole lot known about the expansion yet. In fact there’s really no detail at all. But there’s a reason for that. FromSoftware is keeping all information under wraps for now. If you played through the main game, there is a chance you might be able to theorize where the story is going. Though that in itself would be a challenge since the story in Elden Ring isn’t exactly told in a way that most games tell their stories.

There is a narrative path to follow, yes. But a lot of lore is wrapped up in items you can pick up or find. And there’s are tons of little nuances you might miss if you skip over reading all the flavor text. And as an RPG, getting the full story is a rewarding experience.

The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring is currently in development

The only piece of information that’s been given out about the game thus far, is that it’s currently in development. FromSoftware hasn’t announced a release date and hasn’t said what the expansion would be about. So fans are left to wonder for now.

However, the studio did mention on its official Twitter that it plans to share more information soon. Noting that “the follow-up report is still a little ahead.” That could mean that more details will be announced through socials like the expansion announcement, or they could pop up during E3. Either way, fans know the expansion is coming and have something to look forward to.
