Samsung has released its Camera Assistant app for a host of Galaxy devices. Debuting with One UI 5.0 on the Galaxy S22 series, the app that unlocks new camera features is now available for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 2. The updated version also adds several new features based on feedback from Galaxy S22 users.
Samsung updates its Camera Assistant app with new features
According to an official announcement on Samsung’s community forum in South Korea, the updated Camera Assistant app lets you select from two different image softening modes. You can pick a Medium mode (50% softening) or High mode (100% softening). Of course, you can entirely turn off image softening as well. The app also improves the shutter speed.
The photo is taken the moment you touch the shutter button rather than when you release the finger. You can also slide your finger on the shutter button or hold it to capture a GIF, a series of burst images, or record a video.
A fast shutter may affect the image quality, though. If you want high-resolution photos with more detail, you can opt for Quality Priority. A Balanced mode gives you a balance of quality and speed. Samsung also suggests disabling Auto HDR to improve the shutter speed.
Meanwhile, when setting a timer, you can now also select the number of photos to capture (1, 3, 5, or 7) without needing to press the shutter button again. Camera Assistant will let you define an interval between each photo, so you can change your pose. You can choose from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 seconds shooting intervals between each photo.
Camera Assistant also lets you din the screen while recording videos. This feature helps save battery when you’re recording long videos with no manual intervention in between. Other notable features include a clean camera interface when connected to an external display via HDMI, a manual camera timeout setting, and automatic lens switching.
Of course, this app is different from Expert RAW, which brings granular controls to various shooting parameters. It is more suitable for photography professionals, while Camera Assistant gives additional features to regular users.
You can download Camera Assistant from the Galaxy Store
The updated Camera Assistant app with a host of new features is now available for users of the aforementioned Galaxy devices on the Galaxy Store. Your phone must be running One UI 5.1, which is already rolling out widely to eligible models.
