Last year, there were reports that Google was going to add stereo separation for Google Meet for Mobile. Well, according to Android Police, it looks like it’s finally happening, but there’s a catch.
For the time being, this feature is only available for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Now, we don’t expect it to be exclusive for long. We’re not sure that this feature is so power-hungry that the Tensor Gen-1 can’t handle it.
What is stereo separation for Google Meet?
This isn’t a game-changing addition to the software; it’s more of a lifestyle change. If you’re having a conversation with more than one person, then you’ll hear their audio coming out of different speakers.
The person on the left side of the screen will have their audio come out of the left speaker. The same goes for the person on the right side of the screen.
It’s a nice feature to have, and it could make the experience a bit more immersive. People are still forced to work remotely, so this could help people connect more with their colleagues on their screens.
Google announced this feature, but the company didn’t say when it was going to trickle down to other Pixel phones. Only time will tell when that happens.
To activate this feature, you’ll need to be in a meeting. Tap on the three-dot menu and go to your settings. There, go to the Audio section and look for the Speaker Separation toggle. After that point, you’ll hear the feature activate.
Google Meet 360-degree backgrounds
Another feature that Google added to Meet recently brings 360-degree backgrounds. The app already has a set of backgrounds that you can use to add some flair to your video feed.
These new 360-degree backgrounds will rotate as you rotate your phone. It’s meant to make it look like you’re actually in that location. There are a few backgrounds available now with more coming.
