Minecraft is celebrating its 15th anniversary and Google joined. The Mountain View company added a new Easter egg to its Google Search page, as it usually does on special occasions.
Minecraft has become one of the most popular and important games in the industry. The title was released by Mojang on May 17, 2009 under the name “Cave Game.” Later in 2014, Microsoft bought the studio and it has been in charge ever since. Currently, Minecraft holds the title of the best-selling game in the history of the industry. This is proof of its overwhelming success.
Google Search’s latest Easter egg celebrates Minecraft’s 15th anniversary
Now, Google is celebrating Minecraft’s 15th anniversary by making it “take over” your Search screen. If you search for “Minecraft” on Google, you will see that one of the iconic pixelated blocks appears at the bottom of the screen. If you click on it, you will “become” Steve, the protagonist of the title, with a first-person view.
Every time you click on one of the results sections in Google Search, Steve will reveal a part of the world of Minecraft. Each section of the Minecraft world is interactive, allowing you to break down terrain and blocks.
You can continue scrolling down the search results to continue revealing the deepest areas of the Minecraft world. As you continue breaking blocks, you will find iconic items such as minerals or TNT. Even “The Nether” is present if you keep going down and breaking blocks.
In the lower-left area of the screen, a counter will show how many blocks you have broken. This will help give you more of a sense of progress as you reveal all the possible elements. If you have some time and like the game, this Google Easter egg can be a fun experience.
