Apple may finally refresh the Studio Display by 2026

Apple’s monitors are some of the market’s most expensive and under-specced displays. But yet, they seem to be a pretty popular choice among Apple fans and industry professionals. It’s been a while since Apple refreshed its Studio Display, but the good news is that we can expect it to take place by 2026.

Refreshed Studio Display

Apple originally announced the Studio Display back in 2022. The company hasn’t made any changes to the display yet. However, according to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, we can expect Apple to refresh the Studio Display by 2026. The report claims Apple is testing out various prototypes for the refreshed display, but don’t hold your breath if you’re hoping for a new design.

Gurman claims that the refreshed Studio Display will look similar to the current model. It is also rumored that it will feature roughly the same size screen. The analyst doesn’t dive into detail as to what kind of changes we can expect, but if it’s going to be the same design and size, perhaps we’re looking at a bump in resolution, maybe faster refresh rates, and possibly increased brightness.

However, that’s just speculation on our part. But based on the lack of information, we can’t say we’re too excited about this refresh. The Studio Display is currently priced at $1,599, so there’s a good chance the refreshed model will cost the same, if not more. We’re hoping it will be cheaper, but knowing Apple, that seems unlikely.

What about the Pro Display XDR?

Apple designed the Studio Display as a slightly more affordable alternative to the Pro Display XDR, aiming for wider commercial appeal. But what about professionals who use the Pro Display XDR? It turns out we shouldn’t expect a refresh anytime soon.

According to Gurman, Apple will refresh the Studio Display by 2026, but the Pro Display XDR is “less of a priority” for Apple. The $5,000 Pro Display XDR feels borderline neglected. It was introduced in 2019 and hasn’t been refreshed since. Granted, displays don’t really need annual refreshes, but 6 years and nothing? That’s a bit odd.

Gurman says Apple remains committed to the professional market and plans to update its Mac Pro and Mac Studio computers. In any case, we expect quite a few announcements from Apple later this year.

The company will introduce new devices like the iPhone SE 4 soon and the iPhone 17 series later in the year. We can also expect the usual host of iPad refreshes and a new lineup of M5-powered Mac computers.
