The Google Pixel 9 is the most affordable Pixel 9 flagship series smartphone.

Google announced four smartphones in August 2024, two months ahead of what was expected. The Google Pixel 9 is the most affordable out of the four, though it’s still a flagship-level phone. The Pixel 9 does look a bit different this time around, and it feels different in the hand. It is flatter than its predecessor, that’s for sure. It has flat sides all around, and a flat back. Still, it’s quite comfortable as the edges are tapered off.

The Pixel 9 also has a flat display with rather thin bezels. A display camera hole sits at the top of the display. All the physical buttons sit on the right-hand side of the device. A pill-shaped camera island is placed on the back of the device, with a pill-shaped cutout for the cameras themselves. There are two of them here, and that camera island does help make the phone stable while sitting on the table.

This smartphone is made out of aluminum and glass. It is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, and it’s the lightest in the Pixel 9 series. Well, it’s basically the same weight and dimensions as the Pixel 9 Pro. It does support both wired and wireless charging, on top of reverse wireless charging. The charging is not all that fast, though, and the charger is not included in the package.

There are two cameras situated on the back here. A 50-megapixel main snapper is backed by a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera. There is an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner included under the display. Android 14 pre-installed on the Google Pixel 9, as it launched a lot earlier than expected. Android 15 will land in October. The Pixel 9 comes in four color variants and also features a set of stereo speakers.

    Google Pixel 9
The Google Pixel 9 looks almost exactly like the Pixel 9 Pro, even the cases are cross-compatible. It has slightly thicker bezels, though, and one less camera on the back. Even the weight of the two phones is the same.
    Google Pixel 9 Pro
The Google Pixel 9 Pro is technically superior to the Pixel 9, but the difference is not as big as you'd think. The two phones are also so physically similar that even their cases are cross-compatiable. One extra camera is included here, and the bezels are slightly thinner.

First of all, the phone comes in two storage variants. 128GB and 256GB storage options are available. The base model is priced at $799 in the US, while the 256GB variant costs $100 more.
You can buy the Google Pixel 9 in a number of markets. In the US, it can be purchased from the largest carriers and retail stores. Those stores include Amazon, AT&T, Best Buy, Google Store, T-Mobile, Verizon, and more. You can grab it from the Google Store and some retailers in Germany, the UK, France, Spain, Japan, and some other countries.
When it comes to the US market, the Google Pixel 9 will work on all carriers, basically. That includes AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The same goes for all of their MVNOs. In other words, it will also work on Visible, US Mobile, and so on. Support will vary outside of the US, of course.
Google announced this smartphone in four color options. You can choose between Obsidian, Peony, Porcelain, and Wintergreen colors.
Just like its predecessor, the Pixel 8, this smartphone will get 7 years of software updates. The Google Pixel 9 will get 7 years of “OS, security, and Feature Drop updates”.
Yes, it is. Google is offering its silicone case for this smartphone. That case has been drop-tested, and it's "shock-absorbent". It's made out of "stain-resistant silicone" and it has a microfiber lining on the inside. For the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro it's available in Hazel, Obsidian, Peony, Porcelain, Rose Quartz, and Wintergreen colors.
Unlike all of its Pixel 9 Pro siblings, the Pixel 9 does not come with a vapor chamber. It does have a graphite sheet like its predecessors, though.
