“It is January 30th that the Google Nexus 4 will be available at Videotron, Are you ready?” That was the statement released by the carried based out of Quebec on their Twitter feed. Unfortunately, not much else is known about the release. The price, subsidized or not is being kept to themselves.
This release of Google’s latest flagship handset will mark Videotron as the first Canadian carrier to make the Google Nexus 4 available for sale. This latest iteration of the phone from Google’s Nexus program was released on the Google Play store on November 13, 2012 and released by only a handful of other retailers since. Videotron will join the ranks of T-Mobile in the United States as well as carriers Three, O2, and Virgin Mobile UK across the big pond.
Slowly but surely the newest Nexus phone is being rolled out by carriers as availability is seemingly beginning to ramp up. Does this mean that opportunities will begin to open up for even more carriers to start bringing the Nexus 4 to their customers or will the roll-out continue at the same pace that we have seen it over the past couple of months? That will remain to be seen as T-Mobile in the US has announced the availability, at least online, and promises to have the handset in all of its stores “soon”. Three UK started selling the Nexus 4 in the middle of December and most recently, Virgin Mobile UK rolled out the device just a couple of weeks ago. Now Canada will have a second and contractual option to obtain, arguably, one of the hardest to buy devices in smartphone history.
Hopefully this a good sign for those hopeful to get their hands on an LG Nexus 4 in the near future. Be quick about it though if you do decide to pick one up. If the history of this gadget has anything to teach us, it is these devices are elusive and just because someone says they are going to have one does not necessarily mean that it is going to be easy to obtain.
