As far as I’m concerned, the MemoPad 10 ME301T doesn’t even exist because ASUS has yet to confirm anything. Although, judging by a ton of leaked intel coming from Europe today, an official unveil is likely to happen soon. On top of the information we received today, the MemoPad 10 has also had some rather fascinating developments over the past couple months. Recently it showed up in an unboxing video on YouTube, and before that in a leaked price and specs listing.
Before we continue, let’s take a look at the specs:
- 10.1-inch IPS LCD Display
- 1280 x 800 Maximum Resolution
- Quad-core NVidia Tegra 3 CPU
- 1GB of Installed RAM
- 16GB Internal Storage Capacity
- MicroSD Expansion Slot
- 5MP Rear Facing Camera and 1.2MP Front Facing Camera
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Today, we have some beautiful press shots of the MemoPad 10, and some more detailed information on pricing. Let’s get right to it, shall we?
As you can see from the images, the MemoPad 10 looks an awful lot like the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T. Of course, the optional keyboard dock has been omitted this time around, but it only makes sense considering this is not a new entry in the Transformer line. The images clearly show that a snazzy white, and dark blue version will be available, but according to sources, red and pink models will also be floating around.
An added option to choose body color is always a good thing. Although, in the past I’ve encountered scenarios where retailers only carry one or two colors. That turns out to be a problem when you want an unusual color, because you end up having to travel all over kingdom come, just to look for it.
Sources also say that the MemoPad 10 is much lighter than the TF300T, even though it has a slightly thicker body. You could speculate that the build quality is going to suffer, considering the device is thicker and weighs less; however, it’s best to reserve such opinions until the device is actually available to consumers. It’s certainly possible that ASUS chose to use a different type of material, hence the reduction in weight.
Just by looking at the images though, one can see that the MemoPad 10 is not going to be a hefty device by any means.
The MemoPad has since cropped up on Amazon Germany, and several online Italian retailers. Initial prices reflect that the tablet will retail for about €349 ($477 US).
Notebook Italia, however, seems to think that the suggested retail price is going to be around €300 ($410 US).
When you consider what kind of hardware this thing is going to be packing, and then take a look at the price, one starts to realize that you’d be better off going with the Google Nexus 10.
This is going to sound crazy, I’ll admit that, but some of these tablets have got to start coming down in price. No one is going to spend $400+ on a tablet outfitted with yesterday’s hardware, when they can get an up to date device for just $100 more.
That being said, there has always been quite a bit of interest out there in ASUS’ tablets. What do you the rest of you think? Will there be any interest in the MemoPad when it starts making its way to retail shelves?
