HTC has been teasing its February 19th event for what feels like an eternity, but the day is finally nearing and the company continues to post teaser images like there’s no tomorrow. The latest image, posted by HTC on Instagram, has caused a flurry of speculation. The image shows a plethora of devices under cloths, but something sticks out. The device under one of the cloths appears to have a rather odd shape. It is way too big to be a smartphone, so it must be a tablet, right? All of the other cloths appear to cover something shaped like a smartphone underneath, but the one on the far left is much bigger than the others. This has caused sites like 9to5Google to speculate that, in addition to the HTC One smartphone, the company will also unveil a 7-inch or 10-inch tablet at tomorrow’s event.
Keep in mind that this is all speculation at this point, though. Many things are shaped like a square, so the possibilities are endless for the mystery device. Perhaps it is a wireless charger for the HTC One? We’ll just have to wait and see.
HTC gave up on tablets in 2012 and didn’t release anything and the company has never released a tablet that has gained any traction, but maybe it’s ready to try again. Over the last 12-16 months, tablets have increased in usage even more thanks to the affordable Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, as well as the continued success of Apple’s iPad. But is there room for another tablet in the market, though? HTC better have something special planned or this tablet may suffer from the same fate as its previous attempts.
What’s is almost certain is that HTC will unveil the HTC One, previously known as the M7, at its event tomorrow. The M7 is expected to be HTC’s 2013 flagship device. Current rumors suggest it will come with a 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 4.7-inch HD screen. Camera-wise were looking at a 13MP rear facing shooter and 2MP front-facer for all those gorgeous self-portraits. The phone is expected to run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and be the first device to ship with HTC’s Sense 5 overlay. Sense 5 is expected to be much cleaner and easier to navigate than the current overlay. The M7 will also supposedly come in two color variants, black and silver/white.
