The Motorola X Phone is one of the most anticipated phones of the year and has been subject of many rumors as of late. The phone will be the first one made by Motorola with Google’s influence, because Google has still been producing phones that it has inherited from Motorola’s previous pipeline, but 18 months on Motorola will finally be producing a true Google phone. Recently we have had suggestions that the X Phone will be a customisable phone when it comes to hardware.
PhoneArena have received more details from an anonymous tipster about the X Phone. Their tipster could not confirm or deny the rumors concerning the customizable phones, however the tipster did offer some potential insight regarding the hardware of the device. According to the tipster the phone will feature a 4.8 inch, most likely 1080p given the current trend among manufacturers. A key defining feature of the X Phone will be the display glass being made out of sapphire instead of Gorilla Glass, this is inline with suggestions that sapphire will be replacing Gorilla Glass as the screen material of choice for phones. Sapphire is three times harder to crack than Gorilla Glass, and this next generation of glass is consistent with Larry Page’s vision of a phone that you don’t have to worry about it going “splat when you drop it”. To further increase the durability of the device the phone will also feature rubber bumpers to absorb harsh impacts and a carbon fiber back instead of the kevlar backing that currently graces Motorola’s Droid RAZR line of phones. The phone will also be waterproof like the Droid RAZR HD and Xperia Z.
When it comes to the internals of the device, the phone is rumored to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, considering the rumored launch date of the X Phone being in November, it coincides with Qualcomm’s product pipeline. While we don’t know too many details about the Snapdragon 800 – as we’ve yet to see benchmarks surface – we can say for certain it will be faster than the Snapdragon 600, which itself is no slouch. The tipster has also stated that the phone will have a 4,000 mAh battery, that’s larger than any other battery on a phone, over 20% larger than even the Droid RAZR MAXX, so this phone should easily last all day when this battery is combined with the power saving features of the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets.
As with all rumors to deal with unreleased phones, these should be taken with a grain of salt. While we won’t know for certain which of these details if any are true, they do coincide with Larry Page’s vision of the perfect smartphone.
