If there’s one single thing that helped Samsung gain such a hold on the Android market, then it is its display quality. While some people criticized the manufacturer’s AMOLED panels, the majority of consumers fell in love with how crisp and dark everything was. But, Samsung has only used an AMOLED panel on one tablet, the Galaxy Tab 7.7. I can imagine that it would be pretty expensive to produce a panel with such great quality at a large size, but as with all things, the value drops over time.
According to a new report from the infamous SamMobile rumor site, Samsung is planning to announce a Galaxy Tab with an 8-inch full HD (1920 x 1200) display. This tablet is expected to be announced at IFA 2013 in Berlin, which takes place from September 6th to 11th.
Samsung is also planning to introduce a tablet with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, much like the Nexus 10, which as you should know, is made by Samsung.
Prior to this, we had heard rumors of a 10.1-inch or 11.4-inch AMOLED display, but according to the report, Samsung has delayed this idea for unknown reasons.
If all this holds true, then Samsung is shaping up to have a huge IFA announcement this year. Earlier this week, we heard rumors of a Galaxy Camera sucessor being announced at the event, which seems like a logical move, seeing that the original model was announced at that time in 2013. It also seems likely that a Galaxy Note III could be announced in September in Berlin. Though, as Samsung has done with the Galaxy S lineup, it may wish to hold its own Unpacked event for the Note III. Samsung has shown that it can call a press event and get thousands of people to tune in, no matter how horrible the actual event is.
I for one love the idea of using Super AMOLED panels on larger screened tablets. They are one of the main reasons that I stick with Samsung devices. No manufacturer, in my opinion, has come close to Samsung in terms of display quality yet. What do you think of the idea of larger Super AMOLED devices? Let us know down in the comments!
