AT&T To Begin Pre-Orders For HTC One This Week, Start at $249.99 for 32GB

HTC thinks the One is the device that will resurrect its sales and brand, but since announcing the device earlier this year, the manufacturer has faced one major problem: getting it out of the factory. We first heard rumors of an HTC One delay at the beginning of March, and the company confirmed them a couple of weeks back. HTC’s new goal is to begin selling the device in the United States and Canada by the end of April, a month later than originally expected.

People in the United States who have been waiting for the latest HTC flagship have some good news today. Engadget has obtained an image of AT&T’s internal system, which says that the carrier will put the device up for order sometime this week. As far as pricing goes, HTC is still a step behind Samsung. The 32GB model will run $249.99 with a pesky two-year contract, while the 64GB model, which is an AT&T exclusive, will run $299.

Engadget’s source says that the HTC One will go up for pre-order in store on April 5th, while it will be available online the day before. It’s also worth noting that the 64GB model will most likely not be available on launch day, however. So those looking for more storage will have an even longer wait ahead of them.

As a refresher, the HTC One features pretty solid specs. It’s packing a 4.7-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and Snapdragon 600 processor.

  • 4.7-inch 1080p display giving it a 468ppi
  • 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32/64GB internal storage; No microSD card slot
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and GLONASS
  • 2,300mAh battery
  • Android 4.1.2
  • Sense 5.0
  • IR Reciever allowing you to use the HTC One as a TV remote

It’s disappointing that AT&T looks to be focused on the $249.99 base price-point. The Galaxy S4 will cost $249.99 from the carrier, which is $50 more than last year’s Galaxy S III. Had HTC and AT&T been able to get the One under $249, then it would have most likely been a much easier sell to consumers. Now, AT&T has to convince people to choose the One over the Galaxy S4, and as we all know, the Galaxy line of devices is very well-known by consumers.
