One of my favorite things about Android has always been the ability to customize nearly everything about your device to your liking. You can install tweaks to change just about everything, and one of the most popular changes people make is to their launcher. Most launchers are relatively simple and have a stock Jelly Bean look and feel, but usually offer some performance enhancements. Every once in awhile, however, we get a launcher that truly shakes everything up. Take for instance, Facebook Home or Chameleon. The problem is, most of them are clunky and slow. A new launcher from everything.me look to change that, though.
The developers released a new launcher on Thursday, with their main goal being to take turn your smartphone into a “dynamic phone.” Now, what in the world does that mean? Well, Google already offers a lot of things that make your phone adapt to the way you use, such as Google Now, but everything.me’s new launcher takes that idea and runs with it. For example, let’s say you search for a movie such as “Skyfall” via the built in Google search bar. The launcher will instantly change its look and design to center around that topic. So, in this case, your background would become James Bond, and all your apps would be about movie times, reviews, and trailers. At first, you still have your standard customizble app grid, but once you do a search, it all changes.
Why would you want one search to change the total look and feel of your device? What if you go a little crazy for a second and search “One Direction” via the app? The developers say not to worry, because “A Dynamic Phone works for you, not vice versa. You have pre-loaded Smart folders full of apps you use all the time – news, social, music, games and more. Every folder is instantly ready-to-use and dynamically updated.” Basically, all this means that the launcher is still fully customizable by you, the user, not the launcher.
The beta of the everything.me launcher is available now for free on the Play Store, but it is just that. A beta. Don’t expect it to work for everything right now. What do you think of this idea? Let us know down in the comments!
