Samsung is the main manufacturer to get any press time out of South Korea, but many of us forget that there are several other smartphone manufacturers from the country that are vying for just a sliver of Samsung’s market share. One of the companies that has had a small amount of success in the United States with their mid-range devices is Pantech. The company has released a few semi-successful budget devices here in the states, but much like other manufacturers, they have never been able to release a successful flagship. According to a report from MyDrivers, though, the company will soon unveil a new flagship device that it hopes will succeed all around the world.
The blog reports that the device will be called the Vega Iron and be more powerful than both the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4. It will reportedly feature a 5-inch display with a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 1.7GHz quad0core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13MP camera.
Now, it is important to note that there are conflicting reports as to which Snapdragon processor the device will have under the hood. MyDrivers reports that the device will have a Snapdragon 600 processor inside, which would put it at the same level as the Galaxy S4 and HTC One. Slashgear, however, claims the device will rock the more powerful Snapdragon 800 processor. Should it feature the latter of those processors, then theoretically, it should be the fastest processor we’ve seen launch to date. But, as we all know, good specifications don’t always mean a device will perform perfectly.
Another issue Pantech might have with this device is making it available on carriers here in the United States. Most carriers will be putting all their effort on the Galaxy S4 and HTC One, because they are easier to sell, as they come from well-known, reliable companies. This will especially be true if the device features a Snapdragon 600 processor.
What do you think of the Pantech Vega Iron? Will it help the company grow against Samsung and HTC? We’ll find out more at Pantech’s press event on April 18th, but for now, let us know what you think down in the comments!
