Paranoid Android Releases Video of New Multi-Screen Feature

The Paranoid android dev team has gained a reputation for implementing some fantastic ideas before competing roms can get them ready to flash and apparently it’s been done again. Paranoid released a video showing off their new multiple window feature. Before you watch the video try to keep in mind that it only shows off “10%” of what the released product will be.

As you can see from the video below, it implements some rather unique notification and multi-window features. Unfortunately, it only appears to work with one application at a time. It’s launched by tapping on a notification, and it’s displayed in an overlay placed on top of the app that was previously open. I trust that this really is only 10% of the finished product because I definitely wouldn’t bother flashing paranoid for this feature alone.

Of course, the first thing people think of when it comes to multi-window functionality is Samsung’s Multi-View. The creators of Paranoid Android recognize that this feature is highly desirable. They cited Samsung’s implementation of S-multiwindow as their inspiration, in a statement released alongside the video.

“Everyone knows this is a highly wanted feature, people pooped their pants for hardcoded mms pop-ups for Christ’s sake. they are buying Samsung’s plastic phones for whacky s-multiwindow.”

Wow, strong words Paranoid.

Personally, I am not a fan of Samsung, because I’m not very fond of Touchwiz. However, I do think Multi-View in particular, is one of the features Samsung did a decent job with. Few things demonstrate a device’s power to multi-task, quite like running two fully interactive apps in separate windows.

Paranoid clearly has high hopes for this new feature, and if the video only represents 10% of the finished product than they are justified in their claims. I’m curious why they would release a video of a new feature that’s not entirely fleshed out.

Will this feature beat the “wacky” Multi-View into the ground and be recognized as yet another Paranoid win like Pie controls? Or do you think the Paranoid team is a little bit full of themselves?
