Earlier today, we reported that LG plans to to launch a successor to the Optimus G during Q3 of 2013. No, it won’t be the Optimus G Pro, supposedly, but rather the Optimus G2. The Optimus G Pro is expected to launch in the United States in the next month or two, but it will be in addition to the Optimus G2. Confusing, I know. LG did quite well with the Optimus G, especially for a company who had not had much luck with Android devices prior to it, so it makes since that it wants to try and make its brand even more well known. According to a new report, however, LG has some very different stuff planned for the Optimus G2.
According to people who have seen the design of the phone, the Optimus G2 will be incredibly thin. So thin, in fact, that LG will have to put the volume buttons and power buttons on the back of the device. Obviously, most smartphones feature the buttons on the sides, so this is definitely a little out there. According to the source, the buttons could have been placed on the sides, but they would be very hard to use.
Having the most used buttons on the back could be problematic, though. What if you want to sit the device down on a table? Will that cause the power button to be hit? The volume to be adjusted? As big as they are, phones these days are hard enough to use with one hand, but can you imagine if you had to use the back of the device to adjust the volume and turn it on and off?
The Optimus G2 is said to be packing a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2MP front facing camera, 8MP rear facing camera, and and run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It’s worth noting that by the time it launches, Jelly Bean will already be out of date.
