Now that Samsung has released its biggest flagship for 2013 in the Galaxy S4, the rumor mill has switched focus to the Galaxy Note III. Earlier this week, we heard some crazy reports regarding the camera that will supposedly be found on the device. The report claimed that the Galaxy Note III would have a 13MP rear facing camera with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization, which seems pretty crazy for a smartphone, especially one that has always been ultra-thin like the Galaxy Note has. We’ve also heard rumors that the Galaxy Note III will be powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor, as well as ones that claim we’ll see an Octa-Core Exynos 5 processor, so it’s possible that we’ll see two different models depending on regions. But, obviously, none of this is official until Samsung makes it official, so the real rumors surround the launch date of the device.
The infamous DigiTimes is reporting that Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Note III in the third quarter of 2013, somewhere during July and August. The report also claims that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S4 Mini at the same time. As you’re probably thinking, this is a lot earlier than Samsung unveiled the first two variants of the Note, which were announced at the IFA event in September. When the Galaxy S line up became big, though, Samsung moved away from trade shows and started announcing the device at its own events, much like Apple has almost always done. It’s very likely that Samsung will do the same thing with the Note III this year, as well.
DigiTimes says that Samsung would launch the device earlier so it can compete directly with Apple’s next iPhone, which it says will launch in the third quarter, as well. Though, according to the report, Apple doesn’t have much planned except for a “revised version of the iPhone 5” as well as a “low-cost iPhone model.”
Samsung’s Note lineup of devices has grown mightily over the last year, so it makes sense that the company would want to launch the device at its own event rather than at IFA.
Also, keep in mind that DigiTimes has not been the most reliable source for rumors, so take this report with a grain of salt.
