The Time Warner android app has suffered from awful ratings lately. Ever since an update about 3 months ago almost all the reviews have been 1 star, with some seriously negative comments. Nearly all of them complain that the app doesn’t even recognize a data connection.
Time Warner has a “major update” coming out on Tuesday. While they didn’t specifically mention fixes for the data recognition issue, expect them, along with tons of new new features that were announced today. Speaking of features there are quite a few new ones. 4,000 titles will be available on demand, expect most of the good ones to fall in the “subscription” category. That’s alright, new sources of video content are always welcome. Unfortunately, about 3,000 of the 4,000 titles will be available only when you are on your home WiFi network. Looks like Time Warner wants to keep you safely on your couch, with easy access to your TV. I can’t imagine why.
Time Warner also touts their newly improved TV Mini Guide. Now you can filter by Genre, recently watched channels or show title. If you are curious about the full list of updates you can see the full changelog down below.
It’s good to see cable companies trying to provide mobile viewing solutions for their customers. Even if forcing you to stay in your house to view them kind of eliminates the mobile part. I doubt TV’s will ever go away entirely, but mobile devices have been taking over market share. Cable companies need to take measures like this if they want to stay competitive.
Is your Cable company playing nice with your android phone? Or are they just being stubborn and charging unnecessarily large amounts for the mobile portion of their service (I’m looking at you Uverse!) Let us know in the comments down below!
