The X-Phone has been a long saga, hasn’t it? At one point, it felt like we were all just wishing and hoping for Moto to release something new, something that would not only show off what Android can do but also help bring Moto back out of the shadows. When Motorola themselves announced the Moto-X device hitting late Summer, we all thought it was a little too good to be true but, as we get closer and closer to the mysterious time period that is “late summer” we’re starting to see more and more of the mysterious device leak out.
Thanks to the folks over at PhoneArena we now have a much better idea of what the “X Phone” is going to look like in the flesh. According to the tipster that sent this in, this is carrying a model number of XT1056 and is being tested on Sprint’s network as I type this. Not just that but, the device is billed to support “5G” WiFi, too. We’ve been hearing a lot about the Moto-X or the X Phone coming to more than just one carrier, and where Sprint is concerned it’s already passed through the FCC, as well as versions for Verizon and even US Cellular.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a phone that looks like this on camera and so, we’re inclined to believe that this is in fact what the final version will look like. As for the detailing from this photo, it looks like a device running Android 4.2 – or something similar – and you can just make out the “4G” icon in the top-right corner of the screen, as for what’s under that piece of cloth it’s more than likely an identification number the leaker clearly doesn’t to show off. The “Motorola Confidential Property” lettering on the bottom of the device would also give us a hint that this device is very much the real deal.
The question is where this device is going to sit in Moto’s line-up which is hopefully coming to market later this year. With a rumored 4.5-inch to 4.7-inch display size, a dual-core Snapdragon, 2GB of RAM and a 720p display, the Moto-X does not scream “hero device”. Do Motorola need to make a “hero” device now? Is it time to leave that up to the Samsungs and HTCs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
