We’ve had a lot going on with the Sony Xperia ZU or Xperia Z Ultra (also known as the Togari) over the past couple of days. We sure do have a lot of rumored specs, some choppy images of the device, and a pretty cute little kitten. Unfortunately, Sony has yet to confirm anything concerning the rather large handset.
ePrice is claiming they have the full spec sheet for the Xperia ZU which supposedly includes the following:
- 6.44-inch IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080) with 342ppi
- 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
- 2GB of installed RAM
- 16GB internal storage capacity with MicroSD expansion slot (up to 64GB)
- 8MP rear facing camera (Sony Exmor RS sensor), with 1.3MP front facing
- 3,000mAh non-removable battery
We won’t have a solid confirmation of specs until Sony actually unveils the device, but that’s probably going to happen during the July 4thpresser in Paris. Recently, they started sending out invitations to the press event, adorned with a vague image of the upcoming handset.
Yesterday, some images surfaced of Sony’s supposed Android 4.2.2 software skin. We’re not entirely sure if it’s real or fake, and as many of you pointed out there seems to be some TouchWiz ties in there. That being said, you never know there could be an explanation to it all, stranger things have happened.
We’ll find out soon enough what Sony’s Android 4.2.2 skin looks like because the Xperia Z Ultra is said to be running the latest version of Android. I’m excited because Sony actually offers one of the closest stock Android experiences.
There’s no word on pricing for the large handset, nor is there any mention of a possible release date. I’m willing to bet if it’s being unveiled at a press event on July 4th, it will probably be commercially available before the end of the year at the latest.
You’ve seen our coverage of the device, and you’ve probably seen that lovely image of a surfing kitten too! What do you think of the large handset? Are you interested in acquiring one? Do you hate devices this large altogether? Let us know what you think down in the comments!
