LG has kind of surprised us this evening. They have just released a press release stating that they are dropping the “Optimus” name from their flagships. The are saying that the successor to the Optimus G will be known as the LG G2. Which will be announced in New York City on August 7th. Also all 4:3 phones will be named the LG Vu. Many of you may or may not know about the Optimus Vu, which was very popular over in Korea and made it to the US as the LG Intuition.
So basically, LG is making all their premium phones “G” branded. Which sounds pretty good. It may sound short, which it does, but when you think “Optimus” you normally think of those low-end devices that they’ve put out for so long. Like the Optimus L9, although that’s probably not the best example.
It appears the rumors were true. We heard from a little birdy that LG was dropping the Optimus name from their flagship devices, and now its official. It’s actually quite surprising to see this press release come out prior to their event in NYC on August 7th. Dr. Jong-seok Park who is the President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said “Our vision is to make LG’s newest G devices synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience,” he added “The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by the previous G series products.”
After reviewing the Optimus G Pro earlier this year, I’m definitely excited to see what LG has in store for the future of their G line. Hopefully its more greatness. I’d love to see a LG vs Samsung world. Even though all our money would be going to Korea. How many of you are excited for the G2?
