Last night, we noticed that Google had reduced the price of the Nexus 4 to just $199 ($249 for the 16GB) which is an amazing price. Many of us believed that this means the Nexus 5 is on its way soon. Well it is, but I don’t think it’ll be in the next month. The reason (rumored and speculated) why the Nexus 7 was delayed was because there was so much stock left to be sold on the old version. So it looks like Google is trying to get ahead of the game this time with the Nexus 4 so they don’t have to delay the device. Normally the Nexus phone is announced/released in the October/November time frame, so we still have a few months before it’ll be out.
Similar to what Google did last year when they dropped the Nexus 7 16GB to $199 and added the 32GB at $249, they gave out refunds to those that bought the 16GB version for $249 prior to the announcement last fall. Google is now doing the same thing with the Nexus 4. So if you purchased the Nexus 4 after August 12th, you’ll have until September 10th to request your refund. Of course, you’ll have to manually submit for a refund, as Google won’t automatically go through and refund all those people that bought one in the past two weeks. Oh well. If you really want your $100, I’m sure you’ll fill out the form which you can find a link to at the bottom of the post.
So Google’s has carved out a 15 day time frame before and after the price drop. Hopefully they’ll drop the price of the Nexus 10 as well. Even at $199 and nearly a year old, the Nexus 4 is still a great device. If anyone asked me what the best unlocked device was, I’d still recommend the Nexus 4, based on price, stock Android and the fact that it’s an overall solid device.
How many of you were pretty upset about the price drop last night, because you bought a Nexus 4 just days earlier? Let us know in the comments down below.
