Last year, Google released Field Trip which is an app from Niantic Labs, who also is behind Ingress. Field Trip has been available on Android and iOS for quite some time now, and is actually a pretty nifty app. Field Trip provides you with neat little facts about the area around you, like monuments, etc. Wouldn’t it be cool to have all that information on Google Glass? Well the folks at Niantic Labs and Google have just released the Field Trip app for Glass.
Thanks to the new app, you’ll be able to see the activity suggestions from Field Trip right in front of you. Instead of having to pull out your phone and unlock it. Field Trip is probably the best app out there for Glass right now. Niantic’s chief, John Hanke, actually made Field Trip for Glass and Android/iOS simply to get the app into as many hands as possible. This helps Niantic populate their database with info very quickly. Along with gathering feedback that could be used to help refine the Field Trip UX by the time it was available on Glass.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m excited to get my hands on Glass and check out Field Trip. The app has been really nice on Android, and I’m excited to see how great it works on Glass. From what we’ve been told, it seems to have a much better experience on Glass than on Mobile. Which is definitely saying something.
There’s a video down below which shows the app in action. I know there are many other Glass apps out there, but I have to say, this is probably one of the “must have” Glass apps out there. I really can’t wait to see what other types of apps we see land on Glass in the near future.
