Today, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 went on sale at AT&T. AT&T was kind enough to put one on my door step this morning, so we’re going to be putting it through it’s paces over the weekend and into next week, before we do a full review. But in the meantime, I thought I’d leave you with some unboxing pictures and some first impressions of the Galaxy Mega 6.3. As soon as I saw the box, I thought “damn this is a huge box”, especially compared to other AT&T boxes for phones. This one was pretty large, but then it does have a 6.3-inch device inside. The Galaxy Mega of course came with the usual paperwork, USB cable, and charging brick. But that’s enough about the box.
The Galaxy Mega looks a lot like a mix between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 2. The design language of the Galaxy Mega is almost the same as the Galaxy S4, but it’s in dark blue instead of Black, or mist black. Of course, it’s much bigger. But what was interesting to me, is the fact that it’s a bit bigger than the Huawei Ascend Mate I reviewed a few weeks ago, it actually fits in your hand a bit more comfortably. Remember the Galaxy Mega does not have a S Pen and is not a high-end device. As I’ve heard numerous other people say, the Galaxy Mega is just an experiment for Samsung. Much like the Galaxy Note line was. Samsung is trying to see how big can they go before people say the phone is too big.
So far, the Galaxy Mega’s battery has been pretty good. Of course, I’ve only had the device for a few hours. So I’ll have to do a better review of the battery in the full review. I hate to say this, but I’m actually liking the Galaxy Mega. Sure the processor isn’t the Snapdragon 600 or 800. But I’m not saying “instafail because it has a Snapdragon 400”. The device is pretty snappy, which is surprising given the amount of stuff Samsung puts on their devices, even the Snapdragon 600-powered Galaxy S4 had some lag…at launch. That has since been fixed.
