So you know how we thought the QWERTY DROID phones were done? Well if this new leak is a sign of anything, it looks like Motorola and Verizon are getting another one coming. This leak is coming out of New Cell Phones Blog, which shows photos of this 4.3-inch or 4.5-inch DROID 5. It looks very much like the DROID 4 and all those slide-out QWERTY’s prior too.
Some of the rumored features of this model include a water and dust resistant exterior, NFC, and even some wireless charging. Which is great, especially for those that already own the new Nexus 7. As you can see from the photos, it still has that 5-row QWERTY keyboard. Along with a display, which we can’t really tell if it’s 720p display or not. But I’d definitely expect it to be an AMOLED display to use the Active display features that Motorola introduced into the Moto X and the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx and DROID Mini. It also looks to have on-screen navigation, which is also great, but also different from the DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini. Those all have capacitive buttons. At the bottom you also see the Verizon logo. It doesn’t look any larger than normal.
So we are looking at a fourth DROID coming from Motorola to be a Verizon only device in 2013? Quite possibly. I’d like to see this one launch in time for the holiday season. Although Verizon does already have plenty of devices in their portfolio that customers would be interested in. Like the G2, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 (coming soon), Moto X, DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx, DROID Mini, and the HTC One.
How many of you waiting on a new slider QWERTY Android phone that’s not a terrible device. After all, Verizon did just launch the LG Enact, which looks like it’ll be a subpar phone. How many of you would buy a DROID 5 from Motorola and Verizon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
