LG might not be a company that you associate with doing revolutionary things like Apple, Samsung or even Motorola have been doing as of late but, they are looking forward. A company that’s very much focused on the finer points of engineering, as the G2 has shown us, LG are looking forward and thinking of more than just their next smartphone. The head of mobile over at LG Bulgaria, Dimitar Valev, was recently interviewed and has given us all some insight in what to expect from LG in the near future.
As PhoneArena is reporting, the company very much intends to ship an Android tablet before the end of this year. Which lines up nicely with the appearance of the GPad at the FCC recently and other rumors we’ve been hearing about the device. An Android tablet from LG is going to be interesting, as it’s been a long time since they tested these waters. Pricing is going to be key as the Nexus 7 has pretty much everyone else beat when it comes to value-for-money but, we’re sure that LG has some added features to help shift some units.
As well as tablets, the company is apparently looking to ship a phablet-type device before the year is out, too. While the Optimus G Pro came in at 5.5-inches, it wasn’t what you’d call a premium device and was more f a stop-gap to fill the void until the G2 arrived. We reviewed the G Pro and found it to be very capable, it’s just a shame it was only available on one network. Meanwhile, LG have recently just announced an incredible Quad HD 5.5-inch display that could be perfect for another device like the Optimus G Pro and might give the Galaxy Note III something to worry about.
A smartwatch is also on the cards for 2013, which is something we haven’t heard much about but the company recently filed a trademark for the G Watch. Just like Samsung, LG is working on flexible display technology and we should be seeing more of it next year.
So, it looks like LG is pretty busy right now and 2014 should be an exciting year for them but, will it be enough to help them rise to the top?
